go-to basics are must have pieces in your closet, that can be  incorporated into almost every outfit. these seven not-so-basic basics are staple pieces in my closet. black denim is a must have because it can be dressed up or down. i usually pair my black denim with a blouse and some leather booties. a white v-neck is my go-to piece when i'm having a "i have nothing to wear and i need a whole new wardrobe" moment. a v-neck can be worn casual or tucked into a sequin skirt or lace shorts. a leather jacket can turn any boring outfit into an edgy look. a navy blazer is something that i wear almost everyday to work, but also something that i love wearing with my boyfriend jeans or a pair of dark denim. i own at least six silk camp shirts, which seems ridiculous, but they work with almost all of the pants and skirts i own, and my silk shirts always end up being my staple piece. a statement necklace is a must have piece, that can transform any dull outfit. some necklaces can be layered to get the same affect as one statement piece, although i recommend owning a couple glam statement pieces.

i went into anthropologie the other day and these coasters caught my eye. i love the raw and shiny look of them. i couldn't help myself, and i had to buy a set. 

boyfriend jeans

lately i have been living in boyfriend jeans. so i decided they deserved a shout out. paired with a silk blouse or tee, cardigan or blazer, flats or heels, boyfriend jeans are my go to jeans when i don't feel like wearing anything tight and uncomfortable. one of my favorite looks is a silk blouse tucked into boyfriend jeans, paired with a blazer and booties. i have a feeling i will be running around this weekend in my boyfriend jeans.

i love this DIY magazine display, such a creative idea to organize, store, and display magazines. using only metal hangers and nails, so simple! i can see this being done in a hallway, on a small/non-dominant wall in a living room or breakfast room.

monday mornings

its seems that the gorgeous spring weather we had over the last couple of winter months has gone away, well at least for the next week. this week has been the perfect layering weather. with cold weather and raindrops, i have been layering a shirt, cardigan, jacket, and vest. i love layering looks that incorporate a jacket and vest, or one thick coat layered over a lightweight jacket.  happy rainy day weekend!

collar necklace

i haven't always been a fan of collar necklaces, or bib necklaces for that matter. however, i love the size and shape of this collar necklace. some collar  necklaces tend to be too heavy and a bit overpowering, but the small scale of this necklace allows it to be layered with other long chains. i recommend wearing a collar and/or bib necklace that is smaller and proportional to your body size or else the necklace ends up wearing you, instead of you wearing it.  

antique bar cart

an antique bar cart is perfect for an apartment/house with limited space to work with. a bar cart can be tucked away in a corner or against a wall in a kitchen or living room. i recommend using pretty antique liquor bottles instead of store bought liquor bottles. 

golden globes

this dress from the j. mendel pre-fall 2012 collection is my absolute favorite look from the 2012 golden globes. i love everything about the neckline, the draped front, the embroidered cap sleeves detail, the exposed back, and the two-toned ecru and black of the gown. red lips and bvlgari jewelry completed her look.

jewelry display

i picked up a few vintage jewelry pieces this week and instead of storing them in boxes or in my dresser i wanted to display them. putting jewelry in tea cups or bowls keeps it organized and it looks pretty on a dresser or nightstand. so i decided to put some of my new and old jewelry pieces in a couple bowls from anthropolgie. the inside out bowls (here) and lattes bowls (here) are perfect for storing and displaying jewelry.

i love the idea of dedicating a corner or hallway in a home to everything vogue. framing vintage vogue covers, and stacking design books on a leopard print stool makes the perfect seating area to flip through the latest issue of vogue.

there are so many things i love about this elle decor living room. framing things like my favorite quotes, art, and photographs, make a room feel more personal and intimate. one of my favorite things to do in a room is to mix prints and patterns like printed pillows and throws. also, stacking art books on a table instantly adds a pop of color to a room.

i have been on the hunt for charm necklaces, and i found these dainty and delicate charm necklaces by stella & dot, that are  everything i have been looking for. i wear the on the mark necklace (here), the after midnight necklace (here) and the ever after necklace (here), layered together and all the necklaces completely complimented one another. what i love most about these charm necklaces is that they can be worn alone or layered.

the proenza schouler spring 2012 collection has such sophisticated prints with edgy leather finishes. from striped  blouses and shorts in mustard yellow and mossy brown shades, to vintage floral printed dresses and skirts, the proenza schouler collection is reminiscent of 1950's resort.
