i bought myself an early birthday gift today, which was completely sporadic, but it seemed like it was meant to be, so i just couldn't resist. i've been eyeing the dogeared wishbone necklace ever since i got the peace sign necklace for my birthday a couple years ago. and when i saw the wishbone one today, i went for it. so, as i was shopping for my necklace, i stumbled across a couple really, really, good pieces that were hard to pass up, by i showed a little will power and only bought the necklace. house of harlow is one of my favorites when it comes to jewelry and their current collection is edgy meets tribal. the rocket mountain cuff (here) is perfect for layering with other bracelets and i haven't really seen anything else like it. the center cabachon spike cocktail ring (here) is the epitome of a cocktail ring, and such a statement piece with the large stone and spikes. the spike ring (here) is super edgy, but because of it's smaller scale i think it could be worn as an every day piece. if i had to choose just one piece to get, i think i love the spike ring the most.

two of my staple accessories in my closet are the scarves that my friend ryan debonville of ryan debonville knitwear (here) and (here) knitted me for my last two birthdays (not the kind your grandma knits). these are my three favorite designs at the moment, and i'm loving the heather gray tones. his designs are timeless pieces, made out of lush wools and cashmeres that can be worn season after season. 

makeup 101

i'm in dire need of some new makeup. i've been using a combination of benefit and smashbox products, and i haven't really been impressed with any of it. what i desperately need at the moment is  a new foundation, mascara, and liquid eye liner. i would love some recommendations!

i'm hoping that my next purchase is a pair of scalloped shorts like these ones by j.crew. i would love a pair in a bright poppy and a basic black or navy. scalloped shorts are so feminine and quite frankly they should be the staple spring shorts.

my hunt for a birthday outfit continues, but if i could find something like this beaded cardigan, it would be perfect to pair with a pair of black lace shorts that i already own. i'm crossing fingers that i find something in the next couple a weeks (because i have to!).

this week i've been rocking some of the friendship bracelets i've made over the last couple of weeks. they're definitely my current favorite bracelets at the moment, because they add instant color, and are easy throw on with a couple gold bracelets.

i'm working on a project this week which includes finding a rustic french inspired bench for an entry. i stumbled across this bench  by currey & co, and although it's too large for the space, i couldn't help but share it. i just thought it was completely sophisticated and elegant, and would work seamlessly in a sitting room or home office. 

friendship bracelets

i think the last time i made friendship bracelets was in elementary school at summer camp, but recently i learned how to make chevron print friendship bracelets, and after hearing about the KONY 2012 project, i decided to make these friendship bracelets to raise money for the project. i started with some basic colors like pale pink, cream, orange, mint green, cobalt blue, and navy. and after making a handful of them, i decided to add some more color options like neon pink, neon yellow, neon purple, and black. i love how they look when worn with more than one friendship bracelet and paired with a simple gold bracelet.

my birthday is in april, and my very amazing and talented friend/event planner/style guru/artist/go-to person for just about everything under the sun, offered to plan my entire birthday. so, my only job is to find the perfect outfit to wear, which has gotten off to a very slow start. i know i want to wear a dress, or a blouse and skirt or a blouse and shorts. i stumbled across this printed dress and i would love to wear something like this; something with a strong shoulder, long sleeve, in silk, and most importantly something with a bold print. we decided to make it an optional (but really, we were trying to be polite, so if you're reading this it's not optional) themed event. my friend/event planner/style guru and i have patented (so don't try and steal our brain juice) the term lux hipster and decided to ask all the guests to wear lux hipster attire. i think adding a theme (a tasteful theme) always makes an event more exciting.

the perfect shirt

there's something to be said about "the perfect shirt". in my case the perfect shirt is j.crew's vintage cotton v-neck tee (here). i wore it for the 409th time this weekend to a birthday event under a black and white striped silk cardigan, black skinnies, and nude suede pumps. it's not only made out of the most comfy cotton, but its a deep v that goes under, over, and with every ensemble.

a story about a little pecan tan leather bag

i just got this tan leather bag, and i'm completely in love with it. it was given to me by a friend, and it was a brand new small messenger bag that was sun faded, so i brought it to this shoemaker (and soon to be handbag polishing extraordinaire!) to see if he could somehow bring back some of the color. and i got the bag back today and it looks brand new! it went from a light straw color to a pecan tan color. i'm looking forward to wearing it this weekend! and i have to perfect outfit to wear it with and the perfect event to wear it to.

this week i'm working on two projects. one dedicated bathroom light fixtures and one project dedicated to carpets. i came across this image, which didn't really help me either project, but i thought it was such a quaint and charming guest room. this antique light fixture is by far my favorite feature in the room. its like having a diamond necklace hanging from the ceiling!

a shout out to my boys

i had a much needed weekend spent with two of my closest friends, and two very important men in my life. we shared the perfect day (turned into night), prancing around the city, grabbing lunch, early drinks, and dinner. it made me even more appreciative to have them in my life. i feel so grateful to be surrounded by such talented, motivated, and beautiful people. thank you for your unconditional support, encouragement, and love. 

fall together

four months ago i decided to quit my job to spend a month in europe. the plan was to start in italy, then head to france, and end the trip in spain. it was one of the scariest and best decision of my life. although i felt like i was giving up everything to go to europe, i wouldn't have changed it for anything in the world. it proved to me that everything really does happen for a reason and some things fall apart so other things can fall together. 

pleated, please.

i may be the last person on the planet to finally get a pleated skirt,but i just bought a pleated skirt and i could see myself wearing my skirt exactly like this. i love this skirt with a simple tee and nude accessories. i have a v-neck tee, a pair orange patent leather peep toe heels and also a pair of nude suede peep toes that i will use to recreate this look. i think the orange patent leather pumps might be a nice pop of color instead of the nude.
